Suisun City’s journey has been one of transformation, resilience and community-driven revitalization. This story was captured 16 years ago in the Back to the Brink video series (Part 1; Part 2), which documented the City’s efforts to overcome economic decline and stagnation. During that time, under the leadership of former Mayor Jim Spering, Suisun City intentionally reinvented its downtown and launched a comprehensive redevelopment plan that helped shift its trajectory. These efforts laid the foundation for Suisun City to evolve into a vibrant community known as an ideal place for families to live, work and play. Today’s expansion initiative builds on that legacy, reflecting the City’s ongoing commitment to smart growth and long-term prosperity.
Over the past decade, Suisun City has faced growing financial challenges and responded with targeted solutions, including the adoption of a local sales tax, staffing stabilization efforts and a renewed focus on economic development. However, limited space for growth within the current City limits has made it difficult to meet long-term service needs and funding demands. Facing these challenges, the City took a decisive step in January 2025 when the City Council directed the City Manager to explore annexation opportunities. This exploration phase marks a critical next chapter in Suisun City’s ongoing development story.
